Hallways, kitchens, entryways, game rooms – all of these get lots of abuse due to high amounts of foot traffic. Everyone has places in the house where the floor will never get left alone. When you think about what type of flooring is best for these areas, there are two things to consider: durability and ease of cleaning. Here are a few perfect solutions:
Short, durable carpet – The right type of carpet is a great solution for high-traffic areas. It’s softer and warmer than hard flooring options, and if you choose Berber or a similar durable, textured carpet, it will last a long time and hide every day dust easily. Just make sure to vacuum often and get to spills quickly!
Hardwood – And by hardwood, I mean hardwood. No pine, no cedar or any of the softer woods. Think oak, maple and other woods that stand the test of time. One of the great qualities of hardwood is that it can always be sanded and refinished after a few years of walking leave it scratched and worn. Depending on the way it’s finished, though, it can sometimes be trickier to clean than other hard flooring options.
High quality vinyl and laminate – Vinyl flooring, and laminate flooring with a good quality wear layer, are both great options for these parts of your home because they last a long time and they’re easy to clean with the right cleaners. Remember, you can never go wrong with some diluted white vinegar! And don’t forget to sweep!
Tile or natural stone – Ceramic tile and natural stone are two of the most durable forms of floor. They are guaranteed to stand the test of time. They’re also some of the best options for areas that could potentially be wet, like entryways.
Concrete – It might sound crazy, but concrete floors can be stained to look magnificent. They are also, hands down, the most durable type of floor money can buy. They can also be cleaned in just about any way imaginable. Don’t count it out!
There will always be places in the house that are used more than others. Don’t worry! Pittsburgh Flooring has a solution for every flooring need imaginable. And if you give us a call, those high-traffic areas won’t just hold up, they’ll look great too!
